Care
Everyday care
Keep it simple with a damp cloth to wipe away dust and prevent buildup between deeper cleans.
Spot cleaning
For stains, mix water with a little neutral soap in a spray bottle. Dampen a cloth with the solution and work the stain gently in small circular motions. Let it air dry, and repeat as needed until the mark lifts.
Machine washing (seat cover only)
If your fabric is machine-washable, always turn the cover inside-out first — this protects the fabric from the zip and any velcro during the wash cycle. Before washing a full set, run a test wash on a single cover to confirm the fabric holds up well.
Dry cleaning & steaming
Where the fabric allows, on-site dry cleaning is the best option for a deep clean. A steamer works well too — just protect the fabric with a cotton cloth while steaming.
A note on chenille
Chenille fabrics can develop light marks or subtle colour shifts over time with normal use. This is a natural characteristic of the material, not a fault.

Description
Some chairs ask you to choose between comfort and function. La Caracola doesn't make you pick. Its curved, rounded arm sweeps down into a small fixed side table — round, low, and just the right size for a lamp, a paperback, or the phone you keep meaning to put down. It's a reading chair, a hallway chair, a "just for five minutes" chair, built around the simple idea that a seat is more useful when it comes with somewhere to rest your things.
The name is literal: caracola means "snail" in Spanish, a reference to that coiled, shell-like arm-table silhouette. Fama first introduced the design about fifteen years ago, drawing on an older tradition of purpose-built reading and telephone chairs — pieces designed to hold both a person and a small surface in one compact frame. Most of that category has faded into design history books. La Caracola hasn't; it's stayed in continuous production and still reads as current, which says more about the strength of the original silhouette than any passing trend it was built around.
Underneath the upholstery is a pine wood and MDF frame, with the backrest suspended on pine wood and board and the seat riding on Nosag (no-sag) springs — a suspension method chosen for its ability to hold shape and rebound over years of daily sitting rather than months. The seat cushion is filled with 35kg-density polyurethane foam layered with polyester fiber; the backrest carries 30kg polyurethane with fiber, landing on a medium-firm feel that's supportive without being stiff. Fama backs the frame and seat suspension with a lifetime warranty, and the remaining components with a 3-year guarantee you can extend by another six months simply by registering it on their site.
Practically, only the seat cushion cover comes off — machine-washable inside-out, or dry-cleaned depending on the fabric — while the backrest cover is fixed. It's available in a range of upholstery fabrics and colors, so it can slot into a reading corner, a bedroom, an entryway, or sit beside a sofa as an occasional second seat, wherever a small side table would otherwise have to be squeezed in separately.
